  • 2023-01-31AnnouncedRWE ordered two 100-megawatt PEM electrolysers from Linde Engineering for the site of its gas-fired power plant in Lingen, and said plainly what the order was not: 'This does not yet imply a final investment decision.' The history starts here because it is the first event a company source on file states.source
  • 2024-07-15FundedGermany's economy ministry and the states handed over the funding notifications in Berlin under the IPCEI Hy2Infra wave. RWE: 'Thanks to the funding from the German government and the federal state governments, the first industrial-scale hydrogen projects in Germany can now be implemented.'source
  • 2026-08-04CommissioningRWE says both halves of it in one release. 'As part of the ongoing commissioning process for two 100-megawatt electrolysis plants operated by RWE in Lingen, initial quantities of renewable hydrogen are being produced in accordance with EU rules' — and 'We are now moving ahead quickly towards the full commissioning of our electrolysers. Over the coming months, we will prepare the plants for commercial operation.' RECORDED AS `construction` UNTIL 9 SEPTEMBER 2026, WHEN THE LADDER GREW A RUNG. The old reading was the least wrong of two wrong ones: `construction` said nothing was being produced, which was false, and `operating` said the project had arrived, which the company denied in the same paragraph. `commissioning` is what the company calls it, and the register now calls it that too.source

Technology and measures

  • Renewable hydrogen supplydemonstrationThe electrolysers, power contracts and pipelines that have to deliver hydrogen at industrial volume and at a price the iron pays for, and which no single steel site can build for itself. It stands beside CO2 transport and storage as the other thing that sector is waiting for rather than doing. IT IS NOW SHARED. Steel reached it as a dependency; the hydrogen dataset reaches it as the thing being built, so the technology carries both sectors rather than being duplicated under a second name.

Funding

  • undisclosedIPCEI Hy2Infra — German participationapprovedAn IPCEI is cleared under Art. 107(3)(b) TFEU and the Commission's IPCEI communication, which is a state aid instrument and not a provision of any act this platform holds.NO AMOUNT IS RECORDED BECAUSE NO SOURCE READ HERE STATES ONE FOR THIS SITE. RWE's own release on the notifications says the federal government provides 70% of the total funding for each project and the states 30%, and that RWE is 'planning to invest a medium three-digit million-euro amount in the three projects' — a figure about RWE's own spending across Lingen, Gronau-Epe and Rostock, not about the public money for this one. Figures in circulation for the Lingen grant are trade press and are not admitted.source
