BP Europa SE · Lingen (Ems) · DE · Wind, heat pumps, hydrogen · decarbonisation

In construction

Lingen Green Hydrogen (LGH2) is BP Europa SE's clean tech project at Lingen (Ems), Germany.

Why it matters

It is being built.

Where Lingen Green Hydrogen (LGH2) is

Lingen Green Hydrogen (LGH2) is at bp Raffinerie Lingen. Its position is bp Raffinerie Lingen, the works it stands on, rather than the installation itself. Also in frame: 6 sites using the same technology.

  • 2024-12-18FID takenbp took the final investment decision on the 100 MW project on 18 December 2024. The history starts at the FID because that is the first event a company source read here states; the project was in bp's plans earlier and no primary source for the earlier announcement has been read.source

Sie werden künftig verschiedene Bereiche und Anlagenteile des 100-Megawatt-Elektrolyseurs miteinander verbinden.' bp describes a 34,000 m² construction field on which 'Gebäude nehmen Gestalt an'.source

Technology and measures

  • Renewable hydrogen supplydemonstrationThe electrolysers, power contracts and pipelines that have to deliver hydrogen at industrial volume and at a price the iron pays for, and which no single steel site can build for itself. It stands beside CO2 transport and storage as the other thing that sector is waiting for rather than doing. IT IS NOW SHARED. Steel reached it as a dependency; the hydrogen dataset reaches it as the thing being built, so the technology carries both sectors rather than being duplicated under a second name.

Funding

  • undisclosedIPCEI Hy2Infra — German participationapprovedAn IPCEI is cleared under Art. 107(3)(b) TFEU and the Commission's IPCEI communication, which is a state aid instrument and not a provision of any act this platform holds.bp's FID release names the programme and no figure: 'Das Projekt erhielt eine Förderung im Rahmen der IPCEI Hy2Infra-Welle'. Recording the money as real and unquantified is the honest state; a number would have to come from somewhere the release does not.source
