  • 2024-07-24AnnouncedSVOLT's own EU-Locations page, as the Internet Archive captured it on 24 July 2024: 'In Überherrn on "Linslerfeld", a battery cell factory with 24 GWh of installed capacity in the final expansion stage is to be built.' The site was announced in 2020 and this is the earliest company statement about it that this pipeline has read; the capture date is what the row can defend, not the announcement date.source
  • 2026-05-07CancelledTHE CANCELLATION IS THE AUTHORITY'S OWN, not press. The Überherrn council resolved on 7 May 2026 to repeal the plan, and the notice says why: 'Gegenstand der Aufhebung ist der Vorhabenbezogene Bebauungsplan „Industriegebiet Linsler Feld“, der die planungsrechtlichen Voraussetzungen für die Ansiedlung einer Batteriezellfabrik schaffen sollte. Das Vorhaben wird nicht mehr umgesetzt.' The repeal Begründung records the mechanism: gwSaar, the Vorhabenträger that had bought the land to grant SVOLT a heritable building right, declared it would not hold to the project, which triggers the municipality's duty to repeal under § 12 Abs. 6 BauGB. SVOLT's European withdrawal was reported earlier in trade press and no company statement of it has been read here, so the date this row carries is the authority's.source

Technology and measures

  • Gigafactory-scale cell manufacturingcommercialElectrode coating, cell assembly and formation run at gigawatt-hour scale on one site. It is the process node rather than a chemistry: the same lines make several chemistries, and what decides whether Europe has cells is whether the lines exist and yield, not which cathode runs through them.

Funding

No public capital recorded for this project.
