Announced

Blastr Inkoo is Blastr Green Steel AS's steel project at Inkoo, Finland.

Why it matters

Nothing has been committed to it yet.

  • Blastr Inkoo was announced by 20 September 2026. as of by 2026-09-20
  • Its site is at Inkoo, Finland. as of by 2026-09-20
  • It uses direct reduction with an electric furnace and hydrogen direct reduction. as of by 2026-09-20
  • No committed public money is on file for it. as of by 2026-09-20

Where Blastr Inkoo is

Blastr Inkoo is at Inkoo, Finland, and this register holds no position for it. The company has confirmed the site and no citable source places the works: it is being built where nobody has yet drawn it. The row is held anyway — position is not a condition of being on file — and what was searched, and what was found instead, is below.

NO POSITION SOUGHT BY THIS PASS. Brief 8 forbids geocoding in a census — a municipality is not a point — and position is not an admission leg. The works is named by its owner and by GEM's own plant record; a position is a later task and the row does not wait on it.

Technology and measures

  • Direct reduction with an electric furnacedemonstrationIron ore is reduced in the solid state with gas rather than smelted with coke in a blast furnace, and the resulting iron is melted in an electric furnace. It is the route Europe's integrated sites are converting to, and it is being built to run on natural gas first and hydrogen later, which is why the conversion and the fuel are two different questions with two different timetables.
  • Hydrogen direct reductionpilotThe reducing gas is hydrogen rather than natural gas, so what leaves the furnace is water rather than CO2. It is the only route that takes the chemistry of ironmaking to near zero, and it is separated from the conversion itself because every European unit under construction is being commissioned on natural gas and switched later.

Funding

No public capital recorded for this project.
